The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will issue Sovereign Green Bonds worth Rs 8,000 crore each in two tranches on January 25 and February 9. The proceeds will be deployed in public sector projects which help in reducing the carbon intensity of the economy. The RBI will sell two bonds maturing in five years and 10 years worth, Rs 4,000 crore each, at every auction. Sovereign green bonds will be issued through Uniform Price Auctions.

India's economy is expected to grow 7.0% in the financial year 2023, according to the first advance estimates by the National Statistical Office (NSO) in January 2023. It had pegged India's growth at 8.7% in the fiscal year 2022.

The Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved a new integrated food security scheme for providing free foodgrains to Antodaya Ann Yojna (AAY) & Primary Household (PHH) beneficiaries, to be rolled out from 1st January 2023. New scheme has been named as Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY). Implementation of the new scheme has started from 1st January 2023, benefitting more than 80 crores poor and poorest of poor people.

The Central Government will spend more than Rs 2 lakh crore in 2023 as food subsidy under NFSA and other welfare schemes, to remove the financial burden of the poor and the poorest of the poor.

The 14th edition of the World Spice Congress (WSC) is to be held in Mumbai from 16-18 February 2023. Objective - To open up newer opportunities to promote the international trade of Indian spices. The event, organized to create a platform not only for traders but also policy regulators, will have special business sessions dedicated to promoting spice trade among the G20 countries. Policymakers, regulatory authorities, spice trade associations, government officials as well as technical experts from key G20 countries will participate in the event. The theme of the WSC 2023 is VISION 2030: S-P-I-C-E-S (Sustainability, Productivity, Innovation, Collaboration, Excellence and Safety).

 Maharashtra is one of the leading states producing spices. It is the largest producer of turmeric in India. Maharashtra produces two GI-tagged turmeric varieties and one GI-tagged chilli variety. Coastal areas of Maharashtra are also known for the production of GI-tagged Kokum. The state is one of the largest exporting hubs for spices.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated 26th National Youth Festival, organized in Karnataka from 12th -16th January 2023. Theme of this event: "Viksit Yuva - Viksit Bharat". The event also included folk dances and songs. The festival aims to step up the role of youth in nation building during Amrit Kaal. The World Bank has projected that India's economy would grow 6.9% in FY23, which is much lower than the 8.7% growth achieved by the country in the previous financial year (FY2021/ 22). India is expected to be the fastest-growing economy of the seven largest developing economies. The World Bank stated that global growth is slowing sharply in the face of elevated inflation, higher interest rates, reduced investment, and disruptions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully launched Short-Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) Prithvi-Il from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur Odisha coast. The missile, which is powered by light propulsion twin engines, has a range of around 350 km and can carry 500-1,000 kg of warheads.

The president of the UAE's national oil company Sultan al-Jaber has been named as president of this year's COP28 climate talks. Jaber, also UAE’s minister of industry and technology and its climate envoy, will help develop the COP28 agenda and play a central role in intergovernmental negotiations to build consensus.

The UAE, a major OPEC oil exporter, will be the second Arab state to host the climate conference after Egypt hosted the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s (UNFCCC) 27th Conference of the Parties (COP 27) in 2022.

 The 53rd edition of the annual World Economic Forum Summit has begun in Davos, Switzerland from 16 to 20 January 2023. The five-day-long conclave featuring business leaders, political figureheads, investors and academics is being held physically for the first time in three years. More than 2,700 delegates are expected to convene at Davos during the mega summit. The theme of this year's meet is ‘Cooperation in a fragmented world’. Besides this raging issues like the Russia-Ukraine war, global recession, climate change, and spike in the cost of living are among the key issues to be discussed.

 The wholesale price-based inflation declined to 4.95 percent in December 2022, mainly due to fall in prices of food articles and crude petroleum. The Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation was 5.85 percent in November 2022 and 14.27 percent in December 2021.

The first G-20 Environment meeting under the G-20 India Presidency will be held at the Taj West End in Bengaluru during 9 -11 February 2023. It has scheduled four meetings of the Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG), which will be hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The G-20 Working Group will focus on Arresting Land Degradation Restoration of Degraded Lands and Enhancement of Biodiversity. It will put specific emphasis on the restoration of areas affected by Forest Fire and Mining. India will chair the G-20 for one year till 30 November 2023.

IIT Madras incubated firm has developed an Indigenous Mobile Operating Shystem named 'BharOS'. The OS is claimed to be a significant contribution towards 'Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and is said to offer a secure environment for users. BharOS provides access to trusted apps from organization-specific Private App Store Services (PASS). A PASS provides access to a curated list of apps that have been thoroughly screened and have met certain security and privacy standards of organizations.

Kerala's Wayanad has become the first district in India to provide basic documents to all tribal people. It will provide facilities such as Aadhaar cards, ration cards, birth/death certificates, and health insurance. Akshaya Big Campaign for Document Digitization (ABCD) campaign was launched in November 2021 with the objective of ensuring basic documents for all citizens of Scheduled Tribe communities from Thondarandu Gram Panchayat.
